Formed about twenty years ago under the direction of Joedy Melashenko, an associate pastor at the Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church near Battle Ground, Washington, His Praise Men's Chorus first sang for a fall program at the church, and then in interdenominational festivals at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. With encouragement, they began performing at area churches regularly, ultimately settling on singing one weekend a month.
When Joedy moved on to other duties, Arlo Funk was invited to become director. With Sherilyn Holm at the piano, the chorus ventured into more complex music and wider travel. Trips have included going south to California and north to British Columbia.
At Arlo's retirement, under the direction of Finis Johnson, accompanied by Carol Paulson, and with a move to Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church in Portland, Oregon, the chorus grew again to about 25 members from the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington area. We practice every Monday evening, September through May, at 7 pm, in the CherryWood Village chapel.
